Yet again Channel 9 is messing about with the coverage of the Commonwealth Games. Not content with ignoring almost all countries performances and all sports which didn’t have an Australian participating *and* in with a chance at Gold…

… they are now delaying giving us the closing ceremony.

Bloody useless coverage… but the alternatives are either pay Foxtel $70 for the privilege or to not watch. Beggars can’t be choosers… grrr…

At last real progress seems to be on the way regarding a vaccine for food poisoning. As a start there is evidence supporting trials for a Listeria vaccine, an often fatal infection carried in food.

There are real hopes the research can be made transferable to both a more common cause of food poisoning caused by Salmonella and even to tuberculosis!

Of course it *could* be that the research grant is running out and the scientists are touting possibilities in order to encourage the grant body to approve their renewal application… but this might just be the cynic in me :D

You can read more about the story here.

Canadian ‘hunters’ have begun the annual slaughter of baby harp seals expecting to shoot or club to death around 350,000 of the helpless animals.

Clubbing is preferable for the sealers as it damages the fur less though there are regular reports of the animals being skinned whilst alive and being left to die in agony.

In some ways global warming has aided the seals in that the crumbling ice means the seals are far more spread out than they would be normally and it is harder for the hunters to locate and slaughter them.

Canada says it strictly enforces the means by with pelts are gathered but without an observer at ever club this is impossible and the ever growing area in which the hunters operate makes it harder still.

Activists around the world react in horror whenever the hunt starts… whether they have a point or not is open to question but whever I read the stories I recall the American Bison and how many millions of those were slaughtered. I wonder how long it will take before the hard seal is driven to the edge?

If they were hunting for food that would be excusable… but the carcasses are thrown into the sea… these skins of these animals are being collected to decorate the bodies of the wealthy… personally I find it utterly disgusting.

I joined Gainpay a few days ago to see what it was like. So far I’ve been bombarded with emails for which I get US$0.005 cents… yes a half cent per mail. Sounds like not a lot yet, I agree, but I click on the mail links while I’m watching tv or doing other tasks on the computer and so I earn during what would otherwise be ‘slack time’.

So far I’ve accumulated US$0.45c which I’m actually quite pleased with over such a short time. I would suggest this to be a useful little program to join that will produce a regular income once a small downline develops.

Check it out in the MoneyMakers “Pay to Read (email)“section.

The wife leaves tomorrow morning for a week at Uni and getting stuck into the final year of her MBA. The kids, oldies and I are left behind to manage as best we can.

She leaves at 6:30 in the morning… I didn’t even know there *was* a 6:30 in the morning… especially on a Sunday!!

Anyway… we’ll be alone and like I’ve said, I’ll have time to knuckle down and research the Money Making programs. I already have my eye on a couple of plans and while I’ll post the link into the Money Maker pages tomorrow, I’ll not be recommencing them as such until I’m *sure* they will be paying out!

Had a call Friday afternoon telling me the laptop is fixed and ready to be paid for and collected. Once I have that I’ll be well sorted.

The problems with the lappie were legion including a failed DVD writer, a failed HDD and a collapsing OS :)

The reason I needed it repaired… at the cost of a normal desktop… is that I never got the chance to back it all up properly so there is info on there that I need… mail, passwords etc… and I need access to it.

The new disc will of course be devoid of anything useful… I’ll have to install the OS and Service Pack 2 and all the software I used but at least it will work… I hope :D

I’ve ordered an external USB powered case for the old HDD to sit in so that I can try to extract the info from it before it dies. When it’s done I’ll format it and see if it can still be used for carting stuff between computers etc.

But then… I’ll be diving into the money schemes and letting you know what’s hot and what’s not. There *is* money to be made out there (and lost) and I’m determined to find the best plans :D

The kids got the the exercise while I spent the time playing with the new toy. Damn fine piece of kit this… though it *ought* to be for the price! I connected it up to my bluetooth keyboard and off we went… loads of fun :)

I’ve since also paired it with my Blue Ant in-car speaker so now I’m back to hands-free phoning again. Whoopee!! And now to get back to work…

Was intending to do masses today, but as ‘Phannie’ reminded me, I’d not even had time to rejig the theme I’d chosen to make it look right with the site! So… tomorrow you say? Well maybe not. The wife is off to Uni for a week from Sunday morning so maybe it’ll be an extra day before I can get back to it properly.

But… she’s away… so next week maybe I can *really* get some work done! :D

Seems to have a wireless connection which I used with some success to browse the net… tho the screen is a little on the small side to see much. Maybe there is a setting to tweak to at least make the page properly visible. As it was I couldn’t even see any Google ads.

Ok… installed ‘Revved Up’ and looked at it most of the day but decided I needed to reinstate the MW theme until I can find some suitable graphics to replace the ones currently in the RU theme.. which won’t take long.

In the meantime I’ll leave this here for a day or two… it really isn’t *that* bad :)
