ADHD ? Wassat?

Just had a call from a friend who told me her 6 year old child has just been prescribed Ritalin because she has 3 of the markers for ADHD.

I’m not one to argue with experts… once I’ve learned as much about their specialism as they have… and I don’t know anywhere near enough about either ADHD, *or* the effects/side effects of Ritalin to make any judgements on whether it’s the right way to go.

All I can say is it’s a shame. This kid is really nice. She has the sort of large blue eyes that when you look at her you want yours to ‘water’ with sympathy. She’s got a happy infectious smile and a lovely personality. Let’s hope she ‘grows out of it’.

    ADHD is well and truly over-diagnosed. I won’t dispute that it exists and is a problem, but what on earth are they doing when they seem to prescribe Ritalin for every darn misbehaving kid.
