And I missed walking today!
For the first time since the wife changed her job I missed my morning walk. She’s finally got fed up with spending two hours on the revised bus route and asked me to drive her to the nearest train station.
Since the new timetable was implemented, the bus picked her up by the side of a [...]
Geez my legs hurt!
Despite my exertions yesterday… and today for that matter… my legs seems to have suddenly woken up to the fact I’ve been over stretching them and started to cause me grief!
My calves have tightened up and are making me wince with every step. Ok I suppose this means that they’ll be that much [...]
Our Bridge - 4
We were a bit miffed about not getting a free hat. We’d booked, arrived at the right time… but were disappointed. We discovered that thousands of people *hadn’t* pre-booked and had just ‘arrived’ yet they were all given a hat without any check made about who should or shouldn’t be on the bridge and/or get [...]
Our Bridge - 3
Darling Harbour is a jewel. It’s a hub of avtyivities and a gateway to a huge number of destinations in the immediate vicinity. These range from a casino to a tranquil ‘chinese’ garden in which you’d swear you were a hundred miles from a city. There is the Powerhouse Museum, the Entertainment centre, hotels, private [...]
Our Bridge - 2
By the time we were finished the kids were ready as well… and hungry… so we moved on to the monorail and bought a ‘family pass’ so we could get on and off as often as we wanted.
Usually we’d not bother as it doesn’t go anywhere interesting but this time it actually went where we [...]
Our Bridge - 1
I’d intended to be out of the house by 8:30 a.m. to make sure we were parked in a decent spot early… to avoid the inevitable traffic and the press of people making their way to the bridge for ‘the walk’.
We actually left around 11:15 a.m. and even then had to stop at the [...]
Tramp, tramp, tramp
According to the wife’s pedometer, in total yesterday we must have walked around 17 kilometres… you’d have thought that might have helped reduce the weight a little… especially since all I had to eat were two of the ‘diet bars’, a salmon salad and a little ham on our return… however it *didn’t!
In fact, I [...]
Sydney Harbour Bridge - 75 today!
While half a million of us meandered across the Sydney Harbour Bridge yesterday, today is the official anniversary of its opening 75 years ago. The bridge has provided a wonderful link between the two sides of the city and is a monument not only to the skill of the builders, and designers but more so [...]
New reader?
From our conversation last night it would appear the brother is about to become a reader of the blog… and hopefully will make some of his pithy comments (no… I said *pithy*) to amuse and educate us all.
Welcome bro.
Morning has broken…
Morning has broken… and so has the weather. Yesterday arvo the heavens opened and soaked everything around us. Last night the bad weather continued periodically.
It’s nice to have the rain… but maybe not when we are supposed to be going out to walk the Sydney Harbour Bridge today.
As it is the old man has [...]
Home again home again jiggety jog.
The old man is back… not at all well… as you’d expect. He ended up having *four* teeth out when the dentist realised one of his other teeth was in fact damaged beyond repair.
What struck me was the level of nervousness he displayed!
After all… 60 years ago he was clambering into a bomber to fly [...]
He he… health
The old man is off to get his last extractions done in a few hours. He is *not* looking forward to it.
I suggested he gets his teeth cleaned and whitened while he was there… which got us onto the subject of bad breath.
Seems he’d asked the dentist how bad it was and the dentist said [...]
Haaaarrryyy P.. p. pottter…..
I ordered my copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows a few weeks ago from the local Dymocks shop.
Had a call from them telling me because I’d pre-ordered I was eligible to collect ‘a small prize’ after April 1st… hmmm… I was considering going in dressed in cloak and wizards hat… but decided against [...]
Kickstart Diet
A few days ago I rambled on about the ‘Soup Diet’ I was trying out… and finding it worked. Well as part of the ‘process’ I wrote to the TV programme (Today Tonight) which had been promoting it as a great way to encourage people to lose weight.
I had to write because the links to [...]
Barking mad.
I was outside this morning taking the bins out to be emptied so decided I’d *not* collapse in bed… yet… but make an effort to clean up the hidden triangular area where the bins, pool pump etc is tucked away.
Started 9:00 a.m. and managed to get it all tidied and washed down. Also did some [...]
Soooo tired.
For the past two days I’ve come back from taking the kids to school and had to go lie down for a few hours.
This is pretty silly. I generally roll into bed about 9:30 - 10:00 p.m. and wake at 5:20 a.m. so I get at least 7 hours a night. Having to go back [...]
Jagnjeci but… yeah!
So ok… for anyone who isn’t with it, ‘Jagnjeci But’ is just a way of cooking marinated lamb. There are a few recipes out there but the one I like is as follows… as is obvious from the list this is an old version from the UK:
Basic Ingredients:
6lb leg of lamb, few large [...]
Back on the soup again.
So last night I managed to stave off the worst of the hunger pains with large quantities of veg soup. I had at least three large bowls along with a plate of broccoli and some roast chicken (the protein part of the diet).
Of course this meant several visits to the loo during the night [...]
One step forward.
The old man seems to be moving more in favour of applying for a retirement Visa, but is taking two steps forward and one back.
The rules would seem to imply that if they pass the medicals, they might not need to actually pass over the moolah for up to a year… maybe eighteen months after [...]
Beetroot cooked.
Got the beetroot boiled. It’s sitting in the pot cooling while I try to decide what sort of pickle to use. I might just use up the remains of the onion vinegar… my basic mix for pickled beetroot is just vinegar, sugar chillies, peppercorns… and some star anise… so the onion mix might be a [...]
