Apart from excessive sorbitol being a really good laxitive… ooer… it is apparantly a carbohydrate (you live and learn!!)!

Now I’m asking myself if I’m allowed to eat the damn Apple Spice treats or not? I’m supposed to be on a low-carb diet and chowing down on something that’s 98% carbs seems a little self indulgent.

True I doubt I’d eat these things by the kilo… but I’ll still have to look it up to see what other effect it has… just in case… as if being a laxitive isn’t enough! !! :D

I used to live on Fisherman’s Friends. That hot searing taste of peppermint and menthol really used to clear my sinuses when I had a cold… strangely a lot of people don’t like them… ah well… their loss :)

Anyway, they are largely made up of sugar so are a bit of a no-no on this diet… which was a sad loss. Then yesterday I remembered they had produced a lot of different varieties so stopped to have a closer look. Yes some of them still contain more sugar than I’m allowed… but one at least seemed perfect.

I bought a packet of ‘Apple Spice’ flavour since it’s sugar free and all I can say is… mmmmm. Gimme!

I think these’ll be on my shopping list for some time to come :D

Had a knock on the door this morning and outside was Brett Mirow from J. J. Richards & Sons who handle the waste management for the local council.

We had a chat about the problem with the garbo breaking the pot… and that he’d not bothered to apologise or something… and that I was a little upset. He didn’t quibble about whether or not they’d done it, just said the guy was a newbie… only been on the job two weeks… so might have mishandled the grab. His issue as well that he’d not reported it to anyone.
It might sound a bit trivial… but in total it was a couple of hundred dollars worth of plants, pot and compost!

Anyway… he gave me his card and told me to go out and buy whatever we needed to replace and send him a tax invoice for them to refund.

Yes the original garbo was out of order… but I think this was a nice bit of customer service. Well done Brett Mirow!

Yet again I realise I’ve all bar abandoned commenting on the social machinations of the world at large to concentrate on the micro-behaviours of my family and myself.

No doubt there’ve been all sorts of issues out there worthy of comment in here… but lately I’ve been posting them in Australian Opinion to make sure the forum gets off the ground. What’s been posted here has been more ‘personal’ stuff that isn’t really appropriate for a forum post.

Still… no doubt something will crop up soon enough that I feel the need to rant about. And then… look out! :D

Today we are hoping we’ll see the final instalment of the saga of the old man’s teeth.

He only has a filling today… we think… maybe two (?) but either way it’ll be good to see the end of it. He says he feels really odd when he’s chewing now. With so many teeth gone the shape of his face has changed a little and you can see where some of the gaps are when he talks… if you feel the need to look that is. :)
I think he’ll be ok with it in the end… and as the dentist told him… if he *didn’t* have them done and as they rotted more, he would put himself in grave danger of blood poisoning… so even at his age… better out than in I think.

For those of you into Harry Potter… it all brought to mind Luna Lovegood’s comment about the Rotfang Conspiracy :D

Kids are off to camp this weekend with the Girl Guides… no idea where Brownsea Island is but we’re told it’s out of range of mobile phones… so we won’t be getting frantic calls for assistance from the daughter :)

What we’re going to do with ourselves tomorrow I don’t know… but I bet it’ll involve a lot of sleeping in for a change!

While I was in the mood yesterday I also knocked up a rhubarb and apple crumble. Or started to. As per usual nothing went right and when I went to sort out the crumble mix after stewing the rhubarb and chopping the apples… I discovered I’d run out of butter!!

By the time I’d gone out to buy some and returned, it was time to go get the kids… and the wife… so I was on the move from 2:30 p.m. until nearly 8:00 p.m. by which time it was too late to cook it.

No worries… it’s in the fridge… I can finish it off today. I hope.

I decided I’d make a nice steak and kidney pudding. Not made one in years but thought it might be nice for a change. I’d bought the gear a few days ago so got into making it yesterday morning.

All was going well until I opened the sealed packs of kidney… and discovered the use-by date was the 14th March. Was it usable?

Let’s just say the smell is still ingering in the house and it was so bad even the dogs refused to eat it!

I think I’ll get some mushrooms later on and change the menu to read ‘steak and mushroom pie’ instead :D

Ewww….

After two days off I was out again this morning walking round the estate :)

Damn hard to get back into it when I’d rather be doing anything but… but I went anyway. The dogs seemed to enjoy themselves… other than both of them now lying flat out gasping for breath.

A few months ago I wrote of having to move our little potted orange tree away from the post box because the postie was having problems negotiating his moped between it and the postbox.

I moved it to the bottom of the drive… alongside a tree.

A couple of weeks ago the binmen dropped the bin on it and broke it… but I managed to patch it up, move it closer to the tree and away from the bins… and it was recovering well… until today.

Today I walked down the drive and realised they had not only dropped the bin on the tree… but they had broken the pot. Not only taht… they’d got out of the truck (which alone must be a first) gathered up the bits, dumped them in the truck and driven off without so much as a “Sorry guv” or whatever.

Baulkham Hills Shire Council is about to get a nasty phone call!
