It’s bad enough I’m allergic to the dogs, but they compound things by being generally gross around the place.

You might be able to forgive them licking themselves in all sorts of exotic places at inappropriate times. You can even understand the constant scratching and the smells emanating from various parts of their body… including their fur!

However one of their grossest habits has to be throwing up and then re-eating the resultant mess. It’s even worse when they’ve woken you up at 4:30 on a Sunday morning retching and heaving only to then make foul slobbering noises as they repeat last nights meal.

To be honest, on the only morning of the week when I can have a lie-in I really would have prefered a more gentle awakening.

As I wrote a few days ago, in a moment if mad weakness I joined a gym… again.

On my way out yesterday I noticed a little motto above the door which reads ‘Stay Focused’. The extent of my interaction with the place was that when I read it I didn’t see that… what I read was ‘Stay F—-d’ – which after all summed up exactly how I felt.

Funny how the mind works sometimes.

Yet again the Phantom has appeared from the mists of cyberworld, and rescued our losat posts from vanishing into nothingness. I’m sure the world at large will be eternally grateful that these displays of my erudite inanity and excruciatingly unfunny witticisms will be preserved for just that little bit longer :)

They are on their way back to the blog as I write. Thanks again.

The Beeb has finally decided Neighbours has priced itself out of their market and is abandoning the bidding war that’s been going on in the UK.

What baffles me is why it should be such a big deal to begin with? Why on earth would 5 million people tune in to watch the antics of a bunch of Australian yahoos? Makes no sense at all!

The show will air on the Beeb until April or so next year… then will be screened by whichever network picks it up.

Was last in the UK 3 years ago for the parents 60th wedding anniversary so natch took the kids. Stayed in London one night and when we woke next day the youngest was covered in lumps. Went to reception… played hell about bed bugs… and left in a huff.

Over the next few days we noticed the lumps hadn’t gone so took her to a local doctor who decided the rash was caused by an allergic reaction to penicillin… which she’d been prescribed for earache but had *stopped* taking before we’d flown a week or two earlier.

We decided it’d be good to test her for the allergy since it can be dangerous for her to be given the stuff if she fell sick.

So… three years further down the track we finally took her yesterday to be tested and she *is* allergic… so no more penicillin for the ‘baby’ :)

She’s also allergic to couch grass, rye, and plantain so we’ll have to be a bit more stringent about what we allow to grow free in the garden beds – still I suppose it’s good to know.

After my collapse following the stings I had been trying urgently, but without success, to get to see an allergy specialist myself and I mentioned this to the doctor and he said he’d fit me in since I was already there. Nice of him I thought.

So they wrote all over my arms, dropped the test liquids and spiked me much as they’d done the little one. As expected my ‘hay fever’ allergens started in immediately. Grasses, dogs, cats, dust mites etc all started itching within seconds…. but oddly the paper wasp spots didn’t.

Out comes the specialist and told the nurse to do a subcutaneous injection test using 1/100 strength venom. Boy did *that* work! Within 2 minutes I was feeling much the same way as I did when stung… and all bar collapsing too.

I explained this to the doctor but he decided it was because of the injection method not the content of the test (lord knows why) but I was in no state to tell him. Anyway, at least I am now *sure* I’m allergic to them and will have to take more serious steps to avoid them and clear them out of our garden at least.

This will involve spraying the jasmine and the walls behind it etc to stop them building their nests. Not sure I like that idea but I did *not* like the way the test made me feel. I honestly thought I was on my way out again. It also made me realise again how close I came to not being here now. In fact, if yesterdays example was any guide… one more sting could well finish me off regardless of the epi-pen. I went into shock so fast it took me totally by surprise.

There *is* a way of desensitising me… but it would be a 5 year process… and the risks of the desensitisation process aren’t really worth taking bearing in mind how rarely I’ve been stung in the past. I’ll just have to be careful… tho these wasps are everywhere as are their nests so this isn’t going to be such and easy thing to do. I’ll just have to try. After all… what’s the alternative? :(

This is the picture of a guy wanted for sexually attacking one of two teenage girls whilst in company of another man. One guy held her down while another jabbed his fingers into her… a third man filmed it all on a mobile phone. There are some real sicko’s about!

If you recognise him… or think you do… call the police before he does something worse!

More story here.

Wow!! Paris Hilton the ultimate vacuous party girl and soon to be jailbird is *so* ‘good’ her 45 day sentence for driving misdemeanors has been reduced by half!

Despite not yet having actually set foot in jail… her ‘good behaviour’ has paid dividends!!

Paris Hilton

One has to ask if this good behaviour might have included the transfer of funds between individuals and/or institutions. We’ll never know but it makes even more of a mockery of US justice system than the David Hicks trial did.

Yes I *did* say ‘Becker’. No idea if it’s been seen in the UK but this was the sort of show that brings hope that somewhere in that morass of below mediocre crud spewed out by the TV industry is some real talent.

The scriptwriters had a field day with the cast bringing out the best in each of them. John Becker (Ted Danson) aligned with Chris Connor (Nancy Travis) sparkle the others… well they are spectacular.

Becker Cast

Trouble is they cancelled the damn series. It’s “Dead like me” all over again :(

Finally started using an RSS feed to send messages to mysself. With luck this means I’ll always have a backup of some sort if the worst should happen… again :)

Had a call from the eldests musicology teacher. Your child is quite brilliant… but remarkably erratic. Well thanks we knew that. Also whilst she is not only more than able to keep up with her teachers train of thought and leap ahead of her very often… when it comes to writing it all down… she’s a disaster. Oh dear she is *so* like me sometimes :(
Seems on the two practice exams she took she got around 50% where the pass mark is 65%.

Trouble is when she needs to concentrate on the day… she seems able to pour it out of her head onto paper and walk away, without a care in the world, and get high scores. For example, recently she took the NSW State Computing Competition (as most pupils in NSW have to) and without any revision or extra work… walked away with a Distinction… i.e. she’s in the highest 10% in the state. Drives me crazy!

All I can hope is that the same will happen in this exam… *did* happen… she took it yesterday.

Just to made me crazier… she walked out 15 minutes early and told me she thought she’d got between 70% and 90% so didn’t want to stay longer… arrgghh!!! I tried explaining that she should really have stayed to the bitter end re-reading her paper until she was *sure* she had 100%… but it’s like water off a ducks back.

Still, this was her first real written exam so maybe with time she’ll get as paranoid and neurotic as the rest of us.
