Nostalgia
Was sitting in bed this morning and for some unknown reason I started thinking about the street in Caerffili where my grandmother used to live. I recalled that in her street alone there were several shops. A general grocer, a butcher and a fruit shop (as I recall). Then I started spreading my mind out [...]
Spice Girls reunion.
I only have one question about the Spice Girls reunion… why?
I mean it isn’t as if they have anything remotely interesting to offer. They had nothing to begin with other than some skill in hype. The world is a better place without them. It’s not as if we never see them after all, Posh [...]
Moving on up.
Me move? Nah… too old and fat.
The wife on the other hand managed to wangle a lunch with Julia Gillard who is the Deputy Leader of the Labor Party. She spent lunch sitting next to her discussing amongst other things, her Welsh origins! No idea what else they talked about… something trivial like the party’s [...]
More on Australian Opinion
I’ve now given the Australian Opinion forum a *real* workover!
Apart from reducing the number of boards, which I did a few days ago, I’ve now added a new series of mods which are providing (amongst other things), new user selectable themes and extra functionality!!
It’s looking and feeling special again. All we need now [...]
Going Potty!
First thing this morning I was online to the iMax in Darling harbour ordering tickets to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. We’ll be there on July 11th, 6:45 p.m. waiting in line ready to rush through to the ‘good seats’
With a massive sound system, a huge screen and the [...]
What to do?
I was sitting quietly in the car waiting to pick the kids up from school, and thought I’d do some ’surfing’ while I could.
Oddly though, I found I’d run out of places I really *wanted * to visit!
Something must be wrong
Summer in the UK
Ah the joys of summer in the UK… those traditional activities like bailing out the house, building sandbag walls to keep out the floods… such fun.
Still at least it’s warm… 15ÂșC currently… sad I call it. Still, let’s hope nobody suffers too much in the gales etc.
Oh we love chaos.
So I’ve been getting odd messages on my PDA telling me my home phone account is suspended because our account is overdue. Oops you might say… except the account *wasn’t* suspended…!! Eventually (i.e. today) I thought I ought to ring and find out what was up, not having been there for some time but when [...]
Buh-bye free-to-air?
I’ve been wondering how long free-to-air TV can persist in the face of the Internet and the increasing availability of other forms of media.
We have 4 large TVs here each with surround sound and most with digital pictures either native or thru set top boxes. We also have for computers with tv access… two of [...]
Australian Opinion - another revamp.
Not a major change this time to the Australian Opinion forum… just a cosmetic one. A friend has been busy merging forums and similar to try to streamline it… it seems to have been a bit top heavy lately and this is intended to make it easier to navigate.
A lot of the old boards have [...]
Not a lot going on.
Anyone wondering what happened yesterday… basically nothing much. I just forgot to post
One little thing… the eldest took her ‘plates’ out when we stopped for lunch and left them behind when we finished - probably because we were all reading (again) the Harry Potter series getting ready for the next film and then [...]
Sucked in again - newsgroups rule..
Yes… I’ve been sucked back into the magical world of Harry Potter… if it hasn’t become obvious. I’ve been re-reading the books, watching the movies (as bad as most of them have been) and chatting away on the alt.fan.harry-potter newsgroup.
I really don’t have enough time to be doing this, but maybe it’s just some escapism [...]
Harry Potter Rumours
Rumor, or Rumour depending on where you live, abound about the final book in the Harry Potter series, i.e. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”. I started compiling a list of the most prevalent ones I’ve seen or heard so far and written a ‘page’ listing them.
The page is accessed at top right so if [...]
The Not so Simple Life
With one of the stars of The Simple Life already behind bars (Paris Hilton) we are now watching the other part of the duo beginning *her* court case for driving whilst drinking.
Nicole Ritchie is up in court for a second time on a DUI charge. This time she’s facing a mandatory 90 day jail term, [...]
Women of the Sun
Watched a one hour film last night that was made back in 1981. It was called ‘Women of the Sun’ and told part of the tale of European settlement of South Eastern Australia. It’s one of a four part series documenting the effects on aboriginal culture of the invasion.. especially the females.
This first part I [...]
Money for old rope?
We’d all like some… me especially. As regulars know last year I tried to sort out some online finance only to have the bank account hacked twice and lost all the profits… which sort of put me off it. However, one source of income has continued to trickle a few dollars in here and there [...]
Whether the weather…
There’s an old rhyme that goes along the lines of…
Whether the weather be cold
Whether the weather be hot
We’ll weather the weather
Whatever the weather
We’ll weather it like it or not.
Over the past few days we’ve been getting some severe dissonance caused by the appearance of some wild and woolly weather patterns. We’ve had floods, snow, hail, [...]
End of another era
The world famous QE2, once the pride of the fleet, has finally been sold off to become a ‘floating hotel’ to be moored off the coast of the Palm Resort in Dubai.
The Cunard ship which has sailed the world since 1969 has been sold for US$100 million and will no doubt be affectionately remembered by [...]
Pirate Software?
Interesting little site this… I wouldn’t call it 100% legal… but no doubt has its uses. Parakazanin seems to specialise in knock-offs and may well have viruses and/or Trojans on some of its downloads - I wouldn’t know. However, there *are* some damn fine programs on there in amongst the dross so if you feel [...]
Quiet Day today
Spent the morning re-reading some of Harry Potter “Goblet of Fire’ ready for the new book in a few weeks and then watched Aeon Flux for the first time. Story was a bit banal and predictable but the CGI and special effects made the film a stand out
I liked it anyway.
And yes in [...]
