After weeks of inactivity I finally registered with Bloglines, as per The Phantom’s recommendation, and went off in search of blogs to read… including my own. It was with some surprise then that I realised that *this* site, despite it’s large RSS banner… isn’t accessible! Grrr… is all I can say.

Pro tem I think I might just change themes again, which would be the simplest approach, whilst I work out why the feed isn’t working.

There are times I really hate computers… and they clearly don’t think much of *me* either !! :)

Not sure if summer weather has arrived yet, but I was out in the garden with the hose for an hour this arvo, and I’ll be out there again tomorrow as well. The ground is really dry even though it’s only been a week or so since the last showers.

This is a lovely time of year, not too warm to be outside in the afternoons yet still warm enough to feel the pleasure of the sun on your face.

Flowers are blooming on trees and bushes all around. Our lemon tree is again bowed down both with ripening fruit *and* the new flowers carrying that rich heady scent. We haven’t any idea what to do with most of the fruit since I can’t use it to make pies or lemon curd (my joint favourite… ties with honey!) so we give them away. A lady in the wife’s workplace has had three carrier bags full from us… all from the one tree! No idea what she uses them for.

Still, the point is that Spring is sprung and it’s hard to stand outside the door and *not* be overwhelmed by the scent of new growth bustling into being.

It’s good to be alive :)

Yet again another Australian was sentenced to death for heroin smuggling. This time it was Hong Viet Nguyen a 40 year old of Vietnamese descent caught with 95- grams of the drug in his clothes.

And how much did he sell his life for? Just US$10,000.

You have to wonder at what’s happening in these people’s minds that they are willing to take risks of this kind when they know what the inevitable result will be. The “Peoples Court” said :

“Prosecutors find that with the amount of heroin trafficked, the defendant deserved the highest and most severe punishment so that society can prevent this crime and have educational impact on others,”

It won’t prevent the crime or educate others of course, but that’s a side issue. It’s possible the sentence might be reduced to life imprisonment on appeal, as have the last few,  however I don’t think Australia has a prisoner exchange scheme with Vietnam, so  he may well find after a few years that death might have been a better deal. :(

Yet another pointless waste of a life.

Went to my first Guide Meeting in *months*. Missed them for all sorts of reason varying from sheer boredom with the whole thing (i.e. whilst working through the depression) to conflicting commitments. However… was there tonight.

Lucky I was too as the youngest was given a badge for having been part of the troupe the longest… three years in fact! She was pleased, I was surprised *and* pleased that we’d managed to catch her receiving an award.

I must be feeling better as well. Somehow I managed to volunteer to turn up next Monday for the Parents Support Group Meeting. I’ve not been to one of those in ages… all the more embarrassing because I was supposed to be Vice-President this year. I was a god-awful President last year… and a far, far worse Vice-President this… oops! :D
So it goes. We all have lives to lead.

Every day In Australia, 350 Beatles albums are sold.

Who’da thunk it eh??

Why on earth could a lovely little girl like this be abandoned on a railway station and have *nobody* come forward to identify her or know who she is? Temporarily named ‘Pumpkin’ because of the ‘Pumpkin Patch’ clothes she was wearing, she was found wandering on a Melbourne railway station fifteen minutes after the man she was with walked off and left her. There is nothing to identify her and police are currently baffled.

Surely she has some family somewhere who miss her? She’s obviously been well looked after and cared for. She has no bruises or external marks of violence on her and seems quite well balanced all things considered so doesn’t seem to have been emotionally abused either.

It’s really strange. If you’ve any idea at all who she is… please contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 who will do all they can to assist.

The other blog has been receiving a fair bit of my attention lately. Partly because I’m obsessed with food since not being allowed to eat any, but also partly because I’m still building and updating it… the site that is, not the food…

Anyway, I’ve spent most of the afternoon since our sojourn to the Regional Park, (i.e. our walk) entering recipes, and it’s surprising how much time it takes to enter them, check them, and then add the url to the list. I’ve only added around 25 but I think that’ll do me for now.

Either way I’m done. :)

Geez weeding the patio is driving me crazy. I started last weekend and still haven’t finished. Wouldn’t be so bad but it’s only a pocket handkerchief size.

It’ll look better when it’s done, but it’s so damn boring. Can I show you a before and after picture? Well yes and no. I *could* do it… but it looked so bad before I’m not going to. I *might* just show you an ‘after’ picture… if I ever get it finished. :(

The friend of my youngest decided last night she missed her mum and wanted to go home. Because I’d taken to my bed at 6:30 p.m. the wife had to drive halfway across Sydney to get her back home. Can’t ask her what it was like since while I’m up… she’s not! :)

I feel a bit ‘better’ this morning though I don’t know what was (is?) wrong to begin with. Yes I have a cough and a slight ‘background’ headache… but otherwise nothing. It’s all quite aggravating and now the eldest daughter had come in complaining that *she* has a sore throat like her sister and I. We just need the wife to get it and we’ll *all* have gone down with whatever it is!

Having a day off from the gym today. Not sure what we’ll be doing, but I *will* need some sort of exercise to keep the muscles oiled. Maybe a walk to the ‘regional park‘ which is only a kilometre or so away but covers a couple of hundred hilly acres. We’ll see. Got to get the wife up first :)

Sep 152007

I’ve developed a cough. The youngest has it to so I don’t think it’s related to the diet, nevertheless it’s really annoying, especially when I’m being knocked for six by the diet itself.

I go to the gym and spend an hour or two working off the days calories so there’s little left over for normal life, except by the conversion of fat to sugar which might not yet be happening fast enough to keep me bouncing.

What brought this on was trying to weed the patio which yet again I forgot to spray with weed killer before Spring reared it’s head. I’ll spray it *afterwards* but doing the weeding now is a killer. I can work ten minutes or so and then have to stop for a rest… though to be honest I don’t really want to do it at all so maybe this is just me complaining for nothing again :)

On the other hand I *do* have the excuse that I have a cough… <hack>, <hack> I hope it stops soon. Maybe I should see the doctor on Monday… hmmm. :)
