Having a laugh.
I put forward my suggestion about the gods ‘having a laugh’ at my expense a couple of days back but the extent of this became even more apparent yesterday.
To reiterate so of the points, I knew the daughter and family would be coming to stay so made sure I had a full week clear to [...]
I’m not too fussy on pain.
I always find pain hurts… can’t say I like it. Can’t say I like bad backs either.
Thing about a bad back is that you feel 100% otherwise… well I do anyway. The only thing is that when I move I get shooting pains that make me yell out loud. So I don’t move… and then [...]
I sort one issue… and lurch to the next.
Today I thought I would *finally* be able to make some headway with the cleaning in advance of the daughters arrival Weds eve, however yet again fate got in the way.
I went to the gym as usual but on the way realised my back was beginning to ache more and more. By the time I [...]
Interesting album software!
The software I was looking at, as introduced to me by kyte (see previous post) looks as if it might be the answer to several of my problems, not least the presentation of digital uploads in a form that is ’secure’ - i.e. watermarked - yet accessible to family and friends! I also want ‘control’ [...]
Nice day - even if tiring.
So out we went. We got up at 6:30 a.m. and moved around like zombies. We’d got to bed really late after watching the Labor landslide that swept the Liberals out of power after 11.5 years so were a little frazzled this morning. Nevertheless we *did* get out… by 8.20 a.m.
We’d told the guide leader [...]
So this is how it happens?
Took the daughters up to Guides on Friday an got ‘accosted’ at the door by the district leader. She was asking if anyone wanted to volunteer to run a BBQ at the local hardware store to help raise funds for the girls to go to Jamboree next year.
Automatically… with no thought about time constraints, Xmas [...]
I think it runs in the family!!
We got all set up and organised to meet and greet the UK daughter and family on Tuesday morning at 11:30 a.m. or so. Nice to be organised for a change.
Then we met up on MS-Messenger… and she let me know that she might have got the date and time a bit wrong. In fact [...]
Another day all bar gone!
So I made Welsh Cakes… after going shopping for ingredients. All I need now is some raspberry jam to spread on the inside of the ‘plain’ ones and we’re away. I hope the Girl Guides appreciate them, but on past experience they just wolf them down without a care about who made them, how long [...]
Welsh Cakes
Anyone who fancies making a few… try this recipe. It’s pretty much standard and seems to work!
WELSH CAKES
8 oz (225g) self raising flour
pinch of salt
4 oz (100g) butter/butter
2 oz (50g) castor sugar
2 oz (50g) currants
2 small eggs (or 1 medium egg plus 2 tablespoons of milk)
1. Mix flour and salt, and rub in [...]
And todays disaster is… ?
Well ok it hasn’t happened yet… but I’m sure something will crop up. It usually does.
I took ‘three days off’ from the gym to clean the house in advance of the daughter arriving from the UK. The first day saw me having a blood test and shopping. Yesterday saw me sitting in a garage most [...]
Who’s a clever girl then?
We finally got the results of the ‘educational tests’ the eldest daughter took in school in September. These are the ‘guides’ the school uses to sort the students into ’streams’ and classes.
The four areas they tested were ‘Maths’, ‘Reading’, Spelling’, and ‘Written Expression’.
In ‘Maths’ and ‘Written Expression’ she rated above ‘Average’. In ‘Reading’ and ‘Spelling’ [...]
Same old song.
There I was rushing about this morning to get the kids off to school. I’d booked the car in for 9:00 a.m. for it’s 48,000 k service and wanted to get in and out quickly.
Kids were dropped off and I zoomed away. I made good time despite it being early in the morning and got [...]
Slow progress.
Been moving along slowly. The car is cleaner than it was… but now I have a big box of rubbish to work through sorting out what to keep and what to sling out.
Started in the study… which is to be turned into a bedroom for my two kids pro tem. Also made a start in [...]
Blood tests - ewww.
I hate blood tests. I think I’m allergic to pain This time I’m not even sure what they were for, though I’m sure Stephen Parsons does. Results in a week or two when I go back to see him… in the meantime… plodding on with ’stuff’.
About to clear out the car so it’s ready [...]
Tasks ahead?
Today I’d intended to spend all day working on the inside of the house starting to clean in ready for the arrival of the rellies. Unfortunately things never go exactly as planned and I have to go for a blood test first. This one requires ‘fasting’ for 12 hours so right now I’m really hungry. [...]
And our house?
Well inside is a tip. Outside is looking a little better… as it should be after the time I’ve spent out there! I had to mow the lawns again yesterday despite having only mowed it last weekend! Seems bizarre really… you feed and water it, then cut it short. May just as well leave it [...]
Water, water everywhere.
Up to the Guide Hut early yesterday morning to do more watering of the turf. I realised when I’d finished that the hut isn’t inside the recycling are so was subject to water restrictions. This meant getting there much earlier.
Had spent an hour and a half there pouring water in all directions when a council [...]
Not long to go!
The hordes will be descending upon us soon. The first contingent of the UK mob will be arriving on the 27th so the coming weekend will be the last chance to make some sort of impression on the mess. Of course we have no *time* free over the weekend to do anything… so lord knows [...]
Formally miffed.
The daughter has her ‘Year 6 Formal’ coming up. To me this seems like a blatant money grab by the school. There isn’t a ‘dance’ for them… just an evening out with their parents - seriously! What’s worse is that the cost is $85 per parent and $45 for the child. So just to go [...]
Weeeeed….. ?
A lot of Saturday was spent out in the garden. I finished strimming the edges of the lawns front and back and mowed. Spread lawn fertiliser over them and watered it in. Yesterday was *also* spent in the garden. The wife went out with the kids firstly to shop, and then to drop them off [...]
