Home at last.
It’s been a very long day but we’re home at last. Too late to work on the site, too tired to spit. Well fed after the leg of lamb… but so tired I just need to sleep.
Did I mention the leg weighed 3.5 kilos? Only cost $3.99 a kilo too. Good value we [...]
Something important!
Yup… whatever it was I was going to write was something important. Unfortunately that’s the only thing I can remember about it.
If it ever comes back to me I’ll let you know!!
The Skater & her Dad?
Was considering making up yet another blog called something like ‘The Skater & her Dad’ and load stuff onto and into it that is related to figure skating… and *more* importantly the youngest daughters development as a skater (if any) and of course pictures of her!!
I’ll not be creating a link to it [...]
Another day…
Another day dawns… or did several hours ago. The chaos yesterday is forgotten… except that everyone in NSW has to continually check whatever clocks they use in case they are computer controlled and think Daylight Saving has ended. Here it ends next week, but nobody told the computers!
Anyway, I digress as usual. Was [...]
Quiet ol’ day today.
Not a lot happening here today. The kids are away, the youngest still at a sleepover, and the eldest to a friends party. The wife is working trying to catch up on the work she missed whilst home with the sore back… and I’m pottering about in the garage trying to find some floor space.
Because [...]
Did *you* support Earth Hour?
Earth Hour had a lot of support this year in Australia.. and it seems around the world! I hope you all sat around in darkness for an hour wondering what to do with yourselves… as we did.
The youngest had gone for a sleepover at a friends so there were just the three of [...]
Let me entertain you.
Better yet… let someone else do it!
We’ve been watching a few ‘old movies’ recently and enjoying them immensely. We watched “Mrs Henderson Presents” with Dame Judi Dench opening the now defunct Windmill Theatre… great stuff if a little sanitised. Also sanitised but still watchable was “To Sir with Love” with a youngish Sidney Poitier [...]
Tia for two?
Hard as it is for me to reconcile the two images below, nonetheless they *are* both the same woman! I’ve never seen Naomie Harris anywhere other than in her role as Tia Dalma in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean” movies so when I came across these pictures I just had to add them to the [...]
And… we’re off (again)!
Went to the gym… got weighed (again)… had my photo taken (again)… listened to the motivational talks (again)… and came home (again), and so here we go on the Hills Biggest Loser Competition (again).
The wife came along this time to give me a little ‘moral support’ which was really nice… especially as she’s [...]
Oh Crap!
The old man sends me cuttings from the hard copy media about this and that. Mostly they are informational and useful, but occasionally they are also quite amusing.
One such arrived a little while ago and I reprint it here… for reasons of which, I’m sure most of you will be aware. I can’t tell which [...]
Almost ‘D-Day’.
Not the ‘D-Day’ of old… but a more personal one. Tomorrow is 29th March and tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. is the start of the latest ‘Hills Biggest Loser’ Competition, and I’m in it! Don’t expect to win… but I do hope to get most of this weight off.
Had I continued the diet and exercise regime [...]
Ads with a sting in the tail.
We were sitting around discussing the number of legs various animals had, four on mammals, six on insects, eight on spiders etc and the subject of scorpions came up. After checking on Google Images I decided the question was ‘moot’ because although it has eight actual legs, most varieties have two large pincer carrying appendages [...]
What is it with Heather Mills?
Surely being awarded $53 million was enough to last most people for life? Not so Paul McCartney’s ex-wife Heather Mills who has set a team of accountants on the trail of”‘Macca’s missing millions” claiming he was worth double what was entered into court records as his net worth. But why? Invested wisely the money she [...]
More preventable death on the roads.
Was reading a story about a father who arrived at the scene of a road crash where two of his young sons, his sister in law and two of her children were being loaded into stretchers. As he was checking on his 9 year old son, he was informed the 6 year old had died [...]
Back again!
Back again? No not mine… still the wife’s. She seems a *lot* better today. She’s currently sitting at the computer ‘working from home’ albeit sitting in one of our upright solid wooden ‘dining’ chairs. Not sure if she’ll be travelling in to work tomorrow or not, but if this continues she’ll be pretty much back [...]
Skater Boi?
Up at 4:45 a.m. and out at 5:15 a.m. with both kids and away to the ice rink for the youngest to have her lesson. By 6:45 a.m. she’d had enough she’d fallen on her knees and decided enough was enough. No matter how much coaxing and reminding her ‘champions never quit’… she was too [...]
Kids say the oddest things!
A few weeks ago the eldest was sitting in the back of the car on the way home singing away as she does to whatever is in the radio. I like the ‘oldies’ so I tune into stations that play those songs.
We were driving along listening to a song by the Police and suddenly she [...]
Spam, spam, spam, spam…
I like the Askimet plugin for Wordpress (and other) blogs. So far in the current incarnation of the Opinion Australia blog, it’s intercepted 13,537 spam posts since it was installed.
Comment spam is a real problem for all blogs chewing up both bandwidth and time. Askimet is pretty good at doing its job.
The wife’s now under the doctor!
In case you live outside Wales and wonder what the hell the subject is about… that expression is a part of Wenglish and means she’s following doctors orders about her back.
He seems to think it’s nothing serious, a plain muscle spasm. He suggests she has a day or two on diazepam and anti-inflammatories and see [...]
Vale Neil Aspinall
For those of us who lived through the turbulent ‘Beatle Years’ and the ensuing fall out following their… err… falling out… another chapter has closed with the death of Neil Aspinall aged 66, the ‘mastermind’ who pulled their fledgling company ‘Apple Corps’ into a semblance of order after the anarchy that preceded his arrival.
He told [...]
