To keep the kids occupied for a while yesterday I dug out the old 1950′s film “Hans Christian Anderson” satarring Danny Kaye. They sat transfixed! I’d forgotten much of the film and tho as an adult I still appreciated the music, the film itself was mind boggling!

The film paid scant attention to anything resembling the ‘reality’ of Anderson’s life or the times in which he lived and the flow of the film was sacrificed several times to ‘arty’ considerations, such as including an entirely too long ballet sequence. Nevertheless, the kids loved it. For them of course it was the first time so everything was totally new.

Personally, I’ve always had ‘concerns’ about Danny Kaye, not because of his lifestyle per se, but more because there always seemed to be an odd ‘look’ in his eyes – nothing more. His private life was his own and whether he had a long term affair with Laurence Olivier is neither here nor there, lots of people are gay yet don’t have that ‘look’ about them. I just felt something else was hidden away in there somewhere. He always seemed to be uncomfortable in public, and ‘out of place’ around people.

The songs of course were outstanding for the most part. Inch Worm, Thumbelina and the ever popular Ugly Duckling were as good as they were when I first heard them. It’s still a great kids film even after all these years so if you see a copy anywhere it’d be worth a few dollars to keep the kids quiet while you walk down memory lane.

Altogetehr now… Thumbelina, Thumbelina, tum te tum tum tum… :)

After some consideration I changed the theme to ‘Kepple’ (by Madewira – link below if you like it) which I’ve also used on the ‘Etymology’ blog. Now it’s all very well for *me* to like it but it needs to be ‘liked’ by visitors, so if you have any issues with it… like it *or* hate it… let me know ok?

For starters I think the RSS feeds work on this one now… but I’ll have to check that… but more important I think it’s drop dead gorgeous. I like the clean lines, the ‘texture’, the header, well everything really! :)

Yes I know it has one major ‘flaw’ in that the adverts don’t function correctly at the size they did so they’ll need adjusting or removing to make the place look less cluttered (I hate clutter), but apart from that it seems to suit the place, and me.

So until I find another theme that fills me with pleasure each time I look at it, or WordPress updates make this one obsolete… it’ll do. Maybe?

The time has come to bit the bullet and admit to myself that my back really *is* giving out. I actually pointed out in the ‘family forum’ a few days ago that I’ve finally let myself get a ‘mobility card’ to let me park closer to shops etc.

I’ve not got one before, partly because I’ve been (illegally) using my mothers ‘disability card’ when I’ve been in pain, but mostly because I just didn’t want to accept the fact that I really *do* have physical issues that need attention. Over the past couple of weeks it’s just got worse than ever.

Anyway I went down to the RTA, got my photo taken and now the card is sitting in the sun at the front of the car, and there it will stay until 2013, unless of course I cark it first. There’s a pleasant thought.

Actually, it’s strange to think of that selfish baggage… niece… who stayed with us over Xmas complaining because I wasn’t willing to continue slaving after her and her layabout, workshy… “socially phobic”… husband as the condition of my spine deteriorated and the pain increased.

Perhaps as they age they too will develop some similar physical problem and I wonder if they’ll recognise the irony when it hits them? Personally I doubt it. Either way it won’t help me any, I just have to manage as best I can starting with a trip to a specialist tomorrow to see if he has any suggestions for treatment that might alleviate the wort of the problem… i.e. the pain!

Regardless… I can at least park close to his office now! :)

Ok, here’s a new thing… win $10,000 for completing a 5 minute survey! Yes I know, it’s a slim chance I suppose but as they say… you have to be innit to winnit! I wonder if it’s limited to Aussie citizens? :)

Australian Surveys

I like this idea. Costs nothing to enter… you tell them nothing you don’t want to… and get the chance of thousands!
