Missing in action?

Perhaps not so much “missing in action”, as “missing because of in-action”.
What am I talking about? Well I went to my diet specialist to have a chat and see if we can do something about my total inability to control my eating.  You might remember I lost 40+ kilos just before Xmas, I did make [...]

A whale of a time.

The baby humpback whale found stranded and motherless in Sydney Harbour, and named Colin… later Colette, was finally ‘euthanased’ in Sydney Harbour yesterday.
There’ve been all sorts of stories about her and the way she was/wasn’t aided by government agencies etc and there is now talk of a *summit* of experts to try to establish guidelines [...]

Insane in America

The USA is determined to address what it sees as possible criminal or terrorist potential by temporary workers. It’s doing this by deporting people, who have committed an offence, back to their country of origin. This seems quite reasonable, except that they are doing this regardless of the time they’ve spent in the US, or [...]

Potter Potted!

For reasons which seem to have more to do with greed than customer satisfaction Warner Brothers have determined it’s in their best interests to postpone the release of “Half Blood Prince”, the highly anticipated film of the sixth book in the Harry Potter series!
Anyone who would like the film released on its original date might [...]

Drowning… with a rictus grin!

No doubt *all* of us will be glued to our tv’s later on as the most famous discipline of the entire Olympic schedule begins in earnest.
Yes… Synchronised Swimming will be using the pool vacated by the real swimmers. Oops… did I say ‘real’… of course I meant ‘other’ swimmers.
Yet I still ask myself just what [...]

Who needs the armchair critics?

I’ve been quietly seething over the armchair critics who are bitching in the media about how *badly* our people are performing at the Olympics because they are *only* coming home with silver or bronze medals instead of gold. What a crock of crap this is!!
Just qualifying for the Olympics makes them heroes in my book. Getting [...]

Public Breastfeeding in Wales? Nope.

I was reading a little straw poll on the Wales Online website which asked a question I’d have thought shouldn’t even need to be asked today.
The question is “Do you think it’s acceptable for women to breastfeed in public?” The answer was so obviously ‘yes’ that I was amazed that the results of their poll [...]

Surely it can’t just be me?

Have a look at this pasta sauce lid. Tell me if you notice anything a little ‘odd’ about it.

Not obvious yet?
Ok… have a look at the wording two lines under the ‘Fresh Sauce’ bit. See it now?
I’ll write it out so it’s clearer…
CAUTION: CONTAINER BECOMES HOT WHEN HEATED. HANDLE WITH CARE
Maybe it’s just me but [...]

Kids grow up so fast these days!

Following on from the furore about the exploitation of 12 year old girls by using them in sexually explicit photography, we now have the case of a 12 year old girl in Victoria who told a judge that she thinks she is a boy and is being allowed to change her sex!!
Amazing though it seems, [...]

Drip, drip, drip, drip…

That ‘dripping’ is the sound of the steady erosion of privacy and individual freedom as the UK descends still further into the realms of Big Brother and the advent of the Police State.
Bizarrely, to me at least, it’s a Labour government that is currently creating a Data Communications Bill to be presented as part of [...]

More rubbish about rubbish.

Despite my complaints about UK rag, The Daily Mail in the last post, I *did* read several of the stories. One that caught my eye was yet another story about the bizarre garbage collection laws currently being enforced in draconian style by kerbside Nazis.
In this particular case a 22 year old woman has been fined [...]

On the media’s tale.

I’ve been perusing the UK papers again and have spent a while looking through The Daily Mail which I’m sure I remember as a right wing, but basically even handed paper with some good editorial comment. The online version seems to either belie this memory, or the social situation in the UK has deteriorated to [...]

That’s Safari…

For preference I use Firefox as my browser of choice. It’s fast, easy to use and filled with features some other browsers don’t have. However, because I play with web pages I have to have the other major browsers available to ‘test’ that all I do looks similar in all of them.
The newest kid on [...]

It’s a bit of a worry.

It’s a bit of a worry that the picture I posted below was me as I am not some image forced through image morphing software!
I’m not exactly a fresh faced youngster any more!

Aldi Australia

Tried to contact Aldi Australia to enquire about a faulty product (the MP4 player we bought the daughter for her birthday). I listened to their recorded message, chose my option… and pressed ‘6′. The phone went dead.
I did this several times and each time… the line went dead!
Eventually after ringing yet again someone *did* answer [...]

More bureaucratic madness.

The sister sent me this clipping out of the Daily Mirror from the 8th March 2008. You have to wonder what goes on in the minds of some of these bureaucrats.

Council orders pensioners to take down fence it put up
A BARMY council has ordered an elderly couple to tear down a fence it put up [...]

Another day lost!

Had to ask the family yesterday because I had *no* idea where we’d been and what we’d done. Seems the youngest went skating (that much I knew) then to a party at a bowling alley whilst we went shopping for ’stuff’ of some sort.
I’ve been a bit woolly headed because I’ve been trying to wrap [...]

The Curate’s Egg

Today was a bit of a ‘curates egg all in all. For those unaware of what the hell I’m talking about, it’s a reference to an old joke about a Curate who was lodging with someone whose culinary skills were notable by their absence… i.e. she couldn’t cook.
The Curate, being a pious sort of guy [...]

Erk…

Just discovered via the old man that the commenting system isn’t working properly… i.e. you click on ‘comment’ and you get a 404!! Now *that* ain’t right!!
Will investigate and get back to you on it.

Fruitcakes of the world

Today we have the Australian cherry sponge cake, otherwise known as ‘the eldest daughter’.
As I approached the school to drop off the youngest my phone rings. It’s the eldest daughter whose classes were supposed to start 15 minutes earlier. She ‘needs to talk to someone’. Ok… I’m at the school so I drive round to [...]
