The whole point of Cloud computing is that is it portable, has no restrictions on point of entry and offers services that are not restricted to time of use. I'll explain, currently Cloud computing offers flexibility to services such as the one described - portable disc without the physical problems of carrying it around. These are short term benefits but are not the strategic reason for the investment. The point is that it may eventually transform our daily lives.

e.g. We order food, the fridge recognises when that food in used and automatically buys a replacement - however history shows we have eaten many types of that food so we are given options. The options can be given to us anywhere, in work, at home, in the car at the gym etc.. etc..

e.g. I am involved in an road traffic accident, I am lying in the middle of the road with a paramedic next to me, my iris is scanned and all my patient data is presented to the paramedic, on the way to the hospital my injuries are already being assessed by Triage, they understand my history and my injuries but have a specific question, the leading expert on my condition is in California however I can contact her, not only can I contact her an get an immediate response, I can send her my history and my current injuries, she can give an opinion, help save time and lives. I can also do this is a 'data secured' way.

These examples are dependent on Cloud computing concepts and collaborative tools delivered within that cloud and have a direct impact on the way we work and live. The potential for this is limitless.

It is the strategy for Microsoft and is the future for computing as a whole - it changes the way in which we use and more importantly interact computing fundamentally - it becomes part of our daily lives rather than something we conciously use.

The world we live in is about to change again, all we're waiting for is fast web access both fixed and mobile services to make cloud computing a real and viable method of service delivery.

It was a dream 20 years ago - we're only about 2-3 years away from it becoming a reality.

The world is officially going mad mate. Carol said the world of Mad Max is here and she's not far wrong.

Makes one ponder whether we have been born into the best or worst of times. I also wonder if this is what the Romans felt like while they watched their empire crumble around them.

But how nice it would have been had the police investigated the complaints and gone and arrested the drug dealer! There is so much emphasis on building conviction rates by clearing minor crime that the larger more difficult cases are ignored.

Stella has it right... when local councils use anti-terrorism laws to spy on their ratepayers there is something seriously wrong.

Broadly speaking I agree but the case of the drug dealer isn't quite as straightforward as it sounds. He did break into the bloke's home and threaten to kill him before smacking him about and then dumping the heroin down the toilet. I still have a great deal of sympathy with him but surely as soon as we descend into vigilantism the rule of common law breaks down.

And as for Virgin Rail - have you seen some of the people kissing? They shouldn't be let out in daylight ....

And today Stella Rimington ex head of MI5 has suggested that the use or more to the point the government's interpretation our anti-terrorism laws are infringing our civil liberties.

Hmmm - gamekeeper turned poacher methinks ...

I do think you're right that on balance it's preferable to be cold and warm up as opposed to being hot and having to cool down.

Though saying that while I'd far rather run in the cold than the heat I'd much rather lie down and do nothing in the heat than in the cold.

Actually just at the moment I think I'd much rather lie down in the heat - period!!

Bizarrely we get the same effect for the opposite reason. The ground is baked so hard that when it rains it water just runs off... and then floods those people who've been drought stricken and praying for rain!!

It's like God's having a laugh! :)

And after struggling with some serious sub zero temps it's now chucking it down with a venom today and because the ground is so hard there are flood warnings.

Did someone mention a plague of locusts ...
